How Being a Zombie Mom Helps Me be a Better Aesthetic Provider

Our first picture as a family of 5!

With Mother’s Day this month, I have been reflecting on how my title of “mommy” has affected every aspect of my life. I have three beautiful children, with my oldest being six years old! Before I had children I had an idea of what I’d be like as a mom. It included beautifully curated play spaces, perfectly dressed little ones, and lots of fun. Well, only one of those turned out to be accurate!

It turns out, I’m the type of mom who has to apologize for the mess (because there is ALWAYS a mess), buys the cheesy character clothes for my kiddos just to see their big smiles, and mostly has fun between moments of deep breaths and sometimes a little yelling. The beauty in this is that I have learned to evolve and as our favorite Disney character would say: “Let it go”!

What does any of this have to do with aesthetics? I think my transition into motherhood has shaped the type of aesthetic provider I’ve become. Through embracing the chaos of having 3 little ones at home, I’ve grown so much in my professional life as well. Here are 5 ways I think my zombie mom title has made me a better aesthetic provider:

I value progress over perfection

This might sound odd coming from someone who analyzes millimeter differences, is a stickler for legal compliance, and obsessed with all things safety. But once I have accepted that there is no such thing as perfection, it has freed me up to see the beauty in progress. Perfection is an illusion and not actually achievable so once we start focusing on progress, we can appreciate subtle improvements. Natural anti-aging results are achieved through subtle improvements, and the vast majority of my clients are looking for a natural result. By not seeking perfection, it allows me to make better recommendations and give you a more realistic expectation of your outcome.

I am truly grateful to spend time with other adults

Stay at home moms are some of the biggest super heroes I know and I consider it one of the toughest jobs in the world. Spending time with my littles is so fulfilling but also leaves me wanting connection with grown ups! I love being able to connect with my clients, and we have SO. MUCH. FUN. during our appointments, even when they involve needles. I am so grateful for the opportunity to care for all you beautiful people, and I love that my clients become friends. This isn’t just a job for me, it truly feeds my soul and I hope that comes through in each client experience.

I love how my skincare routine and aesthetic procedures make me feel, and I love to share that with others

After having kids, I felt in somewhat of a rut. My body had changed and the time I had in a day for self-care was completely gone. I quit doing my makeup every day because there was no time. But that desire to feel good about myself and the way I looked didn’t just go away because I was a mom. I found that fulfillment in skincare! Not only was I doing something to keep my skin healthy, but I found those few minutes it took to do something only for myself was rewarding. My self-care looks like 5 minutes to do my skin routine in both the morning and evening. It makes me feel good inside and look good on the outside, and I know many of my clients feel the same! Even if you aren’t a skincare nerd who likes to know the ins and outs of the product ingredients (ahem, guilty), you can still enjoy nice products that help you achieve your skincare goals. I love talking skincare with my clients and sharing my knowledge to help you get skin you love!

I can fully understand the desire to look refreshed

So I’ll admit- before I was a mom I thought aesthetic treatments were kind of silly and reserved for the super-rich or celebrities. But that’s because I was in my early to mid 20’s, only had myself to take care of, and got proper sleep…

Motherhood is the ultimate humbling experience so once I started to see deep lines, uneven skin tone and jowls forming, my attitude changed! I didn’t want to look like a celebrity or model, I just wanted to look more like my old self- the girl that got more than a couple hours sleep at a time. When I opened my mind, I saw how aesthetic procedures could offer totally natural results and also help me feel more like myself. If you’ve ever come in for a consult, I usually talk about how different procedures can make you look rested and refreshed like you get 8 hours of sleep and a good nap every day! This approach has come from my own desire to no look so tired. I don’t need Kylie lips, but if I can look a little bit closer to the pre-kids me then I am happy.

I know how hard it can be to spend time/money on yourself and I’ll make sure to respect your time and budget

Mommas notoriously put themselves last, and I’m no exception to that. It’s not that I don’t feel worthy, I just simply don’t have time. And sometimes I feel like all the work I’d have to do to make time for myself wouldn’t be worth actually having the time (you know- babysitters, organizing all the schedules, etc.). So when you decide to make time or a budget to prioritize your skin health, you can be assured that I understand what an effort it can be and I will do my very best to respect that! You will never be pushed into treatments or products you don’t want, and I am super transparent about my pricing. In fact, you can see all of my current pricing here! I also do my very best to make it easy with online scheduling and grouping multiple services together during one appointment.

In closing, I have mad respect for all of you mommas out there who are rockin’ it. You deserve to look and feel good, and I’d be honored to be a small part of helping you!
