What is BBL?
BBL, or Broadband Light, is a light energy device which delivers targeted, filtered light to the skin. The light energy will cause a targeted heating of the skin which will then signal the skin cells to regenerate. BBL creates a skin change at the molecular level which translates to healthier, clearer, more youthful looking skin. With an advanced BBL device, I can customize the type of light used to target different layers of the skin and correct or prevent various issues.
How is BBL different from IPL?
While both use non invasive light waves to treat the skin, BBL offers many advantages over IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). BBL is a more technologically advanced, safer, more powerful treatment. It is typically more comfortable and offers quicker results too!
Who would benefit from BBL treatments?
Anyone with skin can benefit from BBL! BBL treatments can target the following:
- Brown spots like age spots, sun spots, freckles, etc
- Redness/Rosacea
- Visible and broken blood vessels beneath the skin
- Thin/crepey skin
- Irregular skin texture
- Acne and acne scarring
- Fine lines/sagging skin/ signs of aging
- Traumatic or surgical scars with redness
What areas can be treated with BBL?
Any area with skin! The most popular areas are the face/neck/decolletage but I also love treating the hands, upper back, arms, and scars.
Is BBL only for correcting skin problems?
NO! One of the most exciting aspects of BBL technology is that there are studies showing how BBL can actually rejuvenate at the molecular level. BBL will actually change the genes associated with aging.
This means that once you achieve the clearer, healthier skin of your dreams, BBL can help maintain that and even offer reverse aging. Who wouldn’t want better skin in their 40’s than they had in their 20’s?!

Who should NOT get BBL treatment?
Clients with tanned skin (including self tanners), pregnant clients, clients who are on photo-sensitizing medications, and clients who take anticoagulants (coumadin, Xarelto, etc) should not undergo BBL treatments. Patients with melasma or darker skin types may require pre treatment with topical products and should have an in person consultation to determine if BBL is the best option for them.
What will it feel like?
A BBL treatment is quite comfortable. Most patients describe a feeling like a rubber band snapping the skin, or a warm popping sensation. Some areas are naturally more sensitive than others, and the sensation will vary depending upon what we are targeting and where we are treating.
Is there any downtime?
With corrective treatments, it is common for the skin to be red and feel like a mild sunburn for a few hours. It is possible to have 1-2 days of mild swelling with more aggressive treatments. With vascular treatments, bruising is possible. Brown spots that were targeted will turn darker and slough off within about 7-10 days. It is acceptable to wear makeup the day after treatment as long as it is applied and removed gently!
How many treatments will I need?
This varies depending on your skin condition and goals, but most people need 3-4 corrective treatments. Vascular correction and acne treatments can take 6 or more treatments. Treatments are recommended 1-4 weeks apart. Preventative/maintenance treatments are typically done 2-4 times per year.
